The earlier HSE Test Remittance Program covered testing between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 and that window has closed; ask your local adult-education provider what is currently open.

Fee and prep assistance is administered state by state, so it varies and you should confirm what your state offers — though much of the underlying adult-education funding is federal (WIOA Title II). Indiana runs both the GED and the HiSET, several Indianapolis sites proctor the HiSET, and a site advertising "high school equivalency testing" does not tell you which exam it gives. The GED scheduler only offers centers that actually proctor the GED, so booking there is what stops you driving to the wrong building. Ivy Tech runs testing centers on North Meridian Street and at its Lawrence campus, but neither proctors the GED — they are college and certification testing sites. The three that do are Skilled US on North Franklin Road, Warren Adult & Continuing Education on East 21st Street, and MSD of Washington Township on Westfield Boulevard.

No, not for most people. Indiana suspended the online proctored high school equivalency test on July 1, 2025, and the Department of Workforce Development still lists it as suspended. At-home testing survives only for students who are both enrolled in an Indiana-approved adult education program and approved for modified testing conditions. If neither applies to you, plan on one of the three Indianapolis test centers. Be aware that ged.com still shows an online price for Indiana under a footnote saying restrictions apply — the state notice is the one that governs.

Ivy Tech Community College, IU Indianapolis, Purdue University in Indianapolis, Butler University, and the University of Indianapolis all treat the Indiana High School Equivalency Diploma as equivalent to a high school diploma for admission. Ivy Tech is the usual first stop — welding, health sciences, advanced manufacturing and early childhood certificates all open up once you hold the credential, and Ivy Tech credits transfer onward from there.

Indy Reads on Virginia Avenue, Blue River Adult Education on Shelby Street, YouthBuild Indy and the IndyPendence Job Corps Center downtown, the Excel Center on Meadows Drive, and Flanner House's Center for Working Families on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street all run preparation. None of them administer the exam, so you still book testing at one of the four GED centers. Classes are free; the test is not.
