You can test on your own at 19. If you are 16, 17, or 18, Montana still lets you test, but you must bring an official withdrawal form from the school you last attended and parental consent, and you cannot be currently enrolled in high school. A 16-year-old also needs an age waiver.
You cannot already hold a U.S. high-school diploma and cannot be currently enrolled in a high school at the time you test.
Montana requires proof that you live in the state — a valid Montana driver’s license or other proof of residency. The diploma is issued by the Montana Office of Public Instruction. Out-of-state testers earn their credential through their home state instead.
A current driver's license, state ID, U.S. military ID, or passport is accepted at every Montana testing center. Expired IDs and school IDs are not accepted.
