Bronx Community College is at 2155 University Avenue and Hostos at 500 Grand Concourse. Kingsborough Community College is at 2001 Oriental Boulevard in southern Brooklyn, and LaGuardia is at 31-10 Thomson Avenue in Long Island City. Additional CUNY and adult education sites also test. Nothing. New York pays the GED test fee for eligible state residents, so all four subjects cost $0 at every official New York testing center. That makes New York one of a handful of states where the exam itself is genuinely free, and it removes the most common reason people delay starting. The optional GED Ready practice test is separate and costs $7.99 per subject if you choose to use it.
No. New York does not offer the OnVUE at-home proctored option, so every GED subject must be completed in person at a NYSED-approved testing center. This surprises people, because at-home testing is available in most states and plenty of national guides assume it is universal. The New York State Education Department issues the New York State High School Equivalency Diploma once you pass all four subjects at 145 or higher out of 200. You do not need to pass them on the same day or in any set order — each subject stands alone and your scores are held until the set is complete. Employers, CUNY and SUNY, union apprenticeship sponsors, and the military treat it exactly as they treat a traditional high school diploma.

The CUNY community colleges — BMCC, Bronx, Hostos, Kingsborough, LaGuardia — are the usual first stop because they are open-admission and the cheapest route in the city, and their credits transfer into CUNY senior colleges through established articulation agreements.
