North Carolina lets 16- and 17-year-olds test with a parent or guardian consent and the required approvals; for online testing, a guardian must be present at pre-test check-in. Test takers 18 and over need no consent.
Applicants cannot already hold a U.S. high school diploma and cannot be currently enrolled in a North Carolina high school at the time of testing.
North Carolina does not require you to be a state resident to test. To receive a North Carolina diploma, you do need to take and pass your final subject test in North Carolina; otherwise the diploma comes from the state where you finish.
