Fee and prep assistance is administered state by state, so it varies and you should confirm what your state offers — though much of the underlying adult-education funding is federal (WIOA Title II). Pearson Professional Centers at 505 E Huntland Drive is the third verified option. Every appointment is booked through ged.com, not the campus directly. Check seat availability there before you drive out, because hours shift by term.
The official test costs $36.25 per subject in person, or $145 for the full four-subject battery — the same price everywhere in Texas and among the lowest GED fees in the country. Online proctored testing costs $42.25 per subject, or $169 for all four. If you fail a subject, the discounted in-person retake is $16.25. Eligible Texans may qualify for fee assistance through state-funded adult education programs.
Yes. Texas allows online proctored testing 24/7 from any Austin address. You need a passing score on the official GED Ready practice test first, plus a webcam, a stable internet connection, and a private room where nobody will interrupt you. The GED Ready requirement applies only to online testing — walk into ACC Highland and it does not apply. The certificate you earn is identical either way.
Yes. All four GED subjects are available in English and Spanish, in person and online, and ACC tests in both languages at Highland and Round Rock. Texas also lets you combine languages across subjects — take math in Spanish and language arts in English if that is how you think. Twigera's prep is in English. Austin Community College and the University of Texas at Austin both accept the Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency as equivalent to a high school diploma for admission, as does every other public institution in the state. ACC is the usual first stop — workforce certificates, associate degrees, and transfer tracks all open up once you hold the certificate.
The Texas Education Agency issues the State of Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency once you pass all four subjects at 145 or higher out of 200. You do not need to pass them on the same day or in any set order — each subject stands alone and your scores are held until the set is complete. The certificate is delivered electronically through the state's online system, so there is no waiting on mail. Employers, colleges, apprenticeship sponsors, and the military treat it exactly as they treat a traditional high school diploma.
Goodwill Central Texas and ACC's Adult Education division both run free or low-cost GED preparation in the Austin area, and state-funded adult education covers the classes themselves. The exam still costs $145 unless you qualify for fee assistance.
