Pass the Milwaukee GED on your schedule, from Bay View to Sherman Park.
Wisconsin asks for more than the four subject tests: you also need a 100-question civics test at 65 percent before the state issues your credential. Most prep programmes never mention it. Milwaukee has five test centers, and we build the civics test into your plan from day one.

Wisconsin requires an extra test on top of the four GED subjects before it issues the credential. You must pass it to graduate — plan for it alongside your subject tests.
Passing: 65/100
Beyond the four GED subtests, Wisconsin requires a 100-question civics test plus citizenship, health, and career-awareness requirements before the Department of Public Instruction issues the credential.

Local context for prep — testing capacity, college access, statewide pricing, and the always-available online option.
Three Milwaukee Area Technical College campuses — Downtown, Oak Creek and Mequon — plus UMOS on South Chase Avenue and Joyce's House on West North Avenue. Book any of them through ged.com.
Beyond the four subject tests at 145 each, Wisconsin rule PI 5.04 requires a 100-question civics test scored 65 or better before the Department of Public Instruction issues your GED credential.
Wisconsin raised the fee to $41.00 per subject from 1 July 2026, so all four now cost $164. A discounted retake at a test center is $10.
Wisconsin sets its standard age at 18 years and 6 months, per ged.com's Wisconsin policy — one of the few states to require more than a flat 18. A 17-year-old can test only under an s.118.15 contract with a local high school, through a juvenile correctional facility, or via the Challenge Academy.
ged.com lists online proctored testing at the same per-subject price. Online rules are tighter: after sitting a subject twice online you wait 60 days, and online retakes are not discounted.
Same prep, same lessons, wherever you are. What changes is how the program meets the realities of studying in Milwaukee.
Lessons run 6 to 9 minutes, which fits a break on a plant floor, a bus ride down North Avenue, or the half hour after the kids go down. Nothing in your plan expires while you are picking up shifts, and there is no fixed class night to cross the Marquette Interchange for.
Wisconsin is one of only a couple of states that asks for something beyond the four GED subjects, and learners find out late and lose weeks. Your plan accounts for the 100-question civics test from the start, alongside the mandatory counselling sessions the state requires before you test.
Four credentialed teachers — one per subject — built the lessons and practice you work through. Most students study 45 minutes a day.
Same program, same lessons, different metro. Pick another city or head back to the Wisconsin hub for the statewide overview.

Five sites around the metro. Milwaukee Area Technical College tests at three campuses — Downtown on West State Street, Oak Creek on South Howell Avenue, and Mequon on West Highland Road. UMOS on South Chase Avenue and Joyce's House Education Center on West North Avenue are the other two. The Milwaukee County Jail programme is not open to the public, and the Social Development Commission's testing status is currently unconfirmed. Book through ged.com and confirm the center is running before you travel.
Yes, and this is the single most-missed fact in the state. Under Wisconsin rule PI 5.04 you must pass the four subject tests at 145 or better and pass a 100-question civics test scoring 65 or better before the Department of Public Instruction issues your GED credential. The state also requires counselling sessions before you test. Note that the health, citizenship and career-awareness requirements you may read about attach to the separate HSED credential, not to the GED.
Wisconsin raised its fee to $41.00 per subject with effect from 1 July 2026, so the full four-subject battery is now $164 whether you test in person or online. If you fail a subject, the discounted retake at a test center is $10, because GED Testing Service waives its own fee for one retake per subject. Online retakes are not discounted and cost the full $41. Older pages around the web still quote the previous $39.75 rate.
You must be 18 years and 6 months old, an unusual half-year requirement that only a handful of states impose, and you must have been a Wisconsin resident for at least 10 days. Bring a valid driver's license or other residency documentation to the testing center. A 17-year-old can test only through an s.118.15 contract with a local high school, a juvenile correctional facility, or the Challenge Academy — there is no ordinary parental-consent route.
Yes. Wisconsin allows online proctored testing at the same per-subject price as a test center. You need a passing score on the official GED Ready practice test first, plus a webcam, a stable connection, and a private room where nobody will interrupt you. Two Wisconsin-specific catches: after sitting the same subject twice online you must wait 60 days before retesting, and online retakes never carry the $10 discount.
Yes. Wisconsin lets you take the test in English or Spanish and lets you combine the two languages across the four subjects, so math in Spanish and language arts in English is allowed if that is how you think. Twigera's prep is in English. Locally, Centro Hispano on West National Avenue runs GED preparation through MATC if you want classroom support in Spanish alongside us.
Yes. Milwaukee Area Technical College, the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Marquette University, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering all treat the Wisconsin GED credential as equivalent to a high school diploma for admission, as does every other public institution in the state. MATC is the usual first stop — HVAC, welding, health sciences and IT certificates all open up once you hold the credential, and MATC credits transfer toward a UWM degree later.
Yes. Milwaukee Area Technical College runs free preparation at partner sites across the city, including the Salvation Army on North Jackson Street, the Benedict Center on West Wells Street, and Centro Hispano on West National Avenue. UMOS and Joyce's House run classes alongside their testing. The classes are free; the exam still costs $164. Use a classroom for structure and our adaptive practice to target the subjects — and the civics content — actually losing you points.
Eight to fourteen weeks of steady study, the civics test planned in rather than sprung on you, and a morning at MATC Downtown. Start with the free diagnostic and we will show you which of the four subjects actually needs the work.
