Florida State College at Jacksonville runs official GED testing at five campuses. Downtown Campus sits at 101 West State Street, Room A-1020. North Campus is at 4501 Capper Road, Room E-218, serving the Northside. South Campus is at 11901 Beach Boulevard, Room U131, for Arlington and the Beaches. Kent Campus is at 3939 Roosevelt Boulevard, Room A-102, near Riverside and Avondale. Open Campus at Deerwood Center is at 9911 Old Baymeadows Road, Room D2400. No. Florida is one of a small number of states that does not offer the OnVUE at-home proctored option, so every GED subject must be completed in person at an approved testing center. This catches people out, because online testing is available in most states and plenty of national guides assume it. You can prepare entirely online with us and still need to book a seat at one of the five FSCJ campuses to actually sit each exam.
Florida charges $38 per subject, or $152 for the full four-subject battery, the same price at every approved center in the state. If you miss a subject, the discounted retake is $12 per subject. The official GED Ready practice test costs $7.99 per subject and is billed separately. Because Florida has no at-home option, there is no separate online price to compare — one fee structure covers everyone.
Standard testing age is 18. A 16- or 17-year-old can test, but the paperwork is heavier than in most states — Florida requires a notarized declaration of intent to terminate school enrollment under state law, plus a completed Underage Testing Form. Both need signing before you can register. If you are close to 18, waiting is usually simpler than assembling the exception file, and you can prepare in the meantime.
Yes. Florida offers all four GED subjects in English and Spanish at approved testing centers, and you choose the language for each subject when you register on ged.com. The State of Florida High School Diploma you receive is identical regardless of which language you tested in, and nothing on the credential records your choice or distinguishes it from a diploma earned by attendance.
The Florida Department of Education issues the State of Florida High School Diploma once you pass all four subjects at 145 or higher out of 200. You do not need to pass them on the same day or in any particular order — each subject stands on its own and your scores are held until the set is complete. Employers, colleges, apprenticeship sponsors, and the military treat it exactly as they treat a traditional high school diploma.
Yes. Florida State College at Jacksonville and the University of North Florida both accept the State of Florida High School Diploma for admission, as do Florida public institutions generally. FSCJ is the usual first stop because it is open-admission and the cheapest route in the city, and its credits transfer into UNF and other state universities through Florida's statewide articulation agreement. Admissions offices assess GED holders on the same basis as high school graduates.
Yes. FSCJ's adult education division runs free or low-cost GED preparation, funded through Florida adult education, and Duval County community organizations offer additional no-cost classes. Those programs cover instruction only, not the $152 exam fee, which you pay at registration on ged.com.
