Florida allows 16- and 17-year-olds to take the GED if they submit a notarized Underage Testing Form and a formal declaration of intent to terminate school enrollment, per Section 1003.21(1)(c). 18-year-olds and adults need no extra paperwork. The Florida Department of Education's adult-ed offices handle the underage form locally.
Applicants cannot already hold a U.S. high-school diploma. Under-18 applicants must file the declaration of intent to terminate school enrollment before they can sit the test.
Florida does not require state residency, but you must register with a valid Florida address and a current government-issued photo ID. Out-of-state testers traveling into Florida should verify with their chosen testing center before booking.
A current Florida driver's license, Florida state ID, U.S. military ID, U.S. passport, or Permanent Resident Card is accepted at every Florida testing center. Expired IDs are not accepted. The name on your ID must match the name on your ged.com account.
Florida does not currently offer online proctored GED testing. All four subject tests are taken in person at an approved Florida testing center. If you want to test online, you would need to be a resident of a state that offers OnVUE.
You must score at least 145 on each of the four subject tests independently. Subjects can be retaken individually without re-doing the others, and the diploma is issued by the Florida Department of Education once all four are passing.

The Florida High School Diploma issued by the State Board of Education is treated identically to a regular Florida high-school diploma by every accredited college, every employer, and every branch of the U.S. military. The diploma is issued by the Florida Department of Education's Division of Career and Adult Education after you pass all four subject tests.
The official test is $38 per subject, or $152 for the full four-subject battery — among the lower test fees in the country. If you fail a subject, the discounted retake at a Florida test center is $12 per subject (GED Testing Service waives its portion; you pay only the Florida test-center fee). Yes. The full GED test is available in Spanish in Florida — all four subjects. You can mix English and Spanish across subjects — take Math in Spanish and RLA in English if that serves you. You'll also need a separate signed declaration of intent to terminate school enrollment, per Section 1003.21(1)(c) of the Florida Statutes. Both documents go to the testing center at registration. Without both, 16- and 17-year-olds cannot sit the test in Florida.
Some CareerSource regional workforce boards in Florida cover GED testing fees for eligible learners — typically those enrolled in workforce-development programs or receiving WIOA-funded services. Eligibility and coverage vary by region; CareerSource Florida has 24 local workforce boards, and each sets its own policies. Contact your local CareerSource office before paying out-of-pocket. Some Florida College System institutions also cover testing for enrolled adult-ed students.
