If you miss a subject, the in-person retake drops to about $10 because GED Testing Service waives its own fee, while online retakes stay at $36. You may still see the PAFreeGED promo code advertised on ged.com. Do not budget around it: that subsidy closed on June 30, 2026 and has not been renewed.

It is the only GED site for a long way: the next Pennsylvania centers are the Warren Forest Higher Education Council and Keystone in Oil City, both over 50 miles south. Sites in Ashtabula, Ohio and Jamestown, New York are closer on a map but sit in other states. Book through your GED.com account rather than calling a site.
Not usefully. GED Testing Service issues the credential from the state where you pass your final subject, so finishing in Ashtabula or Jamestown gives you an Ohio or New York credential rather than a Pennsylvania one. With GECAC downtown, there is no reason to leave the state anyway.
Yes. You are required to be a Pennsylvania resident, and you prove it at the testing center with a valid driver license or other proof of residency. GED Testing Service states plainly that non-residents are not eligible to take the GED test in Pennsylvania at all, so this is a hard eligibility rule rather than a paperwork detail. One Pennsylvania limit worth knowing: the minimum age for testing online here is 18 with no exceptions, so an approved 16- or 17-year-old has to sit at GECAC in person.
Eighteen, and Pennsylvania's under-18 route is unusually demanding. A 16- or 17-year-old needs an approved age waiver from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the application has to include a written request from an employer, a college admissions office, a military recruiting office, or the director of a state institution stating that a GED is required. You need an outside party with a concrete reason, and under-18 testing is in person only.

Penn State Behrend, Gannon University, Mercyhurst, PennWest Edinboro and the Great Lakes Institute of Technology all treat the Pennsylvania GED as equivalent to a high school diploma for admission, as does every other public institution in the state. Great Lakes Institute is the usual first stop for trades — welding, HVAC and medical assisting all open up once you hold the credential.
