Wisconsin DPI approves two centers in Dane County, both Madison College: the Truax campus at 1701 Wright Street, Madison, WI 53704, and the Goodman South campus at 2429 Perry Street, Madison, WI 53713. Call the High School Completion Center on 608.243.4199 to confirm testing times, because GED testing hours are not published online. One thing to watch: the open testing sessions advertised at Goodman South Room 133 on Mondays and Thursdays are for the TABE placement assessment, not the official GED exam.
From 1 July 2026 Wisconsin charges $41.00 a subject, so all four come to $164. That is the same price whether you sit them at Truax, at Goodman South, or online from home. Retakes are where the difference shows: $10 at a test center, but the full $41 online. Wisconsin also does not offer the discounted retake that GED Testing Service runs in most states, so a failed subject costs more here than it would across the border in Illinois.

Eighteen and a half, which is unusual: most states set it at eighteen. Wisconsin DPI puts it as being at least 18.5 years old, or your ninth-grade class having already graduated. Between 17 and 18.5 you can only be served through a school district or a special program, which in practice means an s.118.15 contract with your local high school, a juvenile correctional facility, or the Challenge Academy. That takes time to arrange, so start it before you plan any test dates.
Yes, and this is one of the stricter states. You must show you have resided in Wisconsin for at least 10 days. You also have to not be enrolled in any public or private high school, and you must complete counseling sessions with an approved educational institution before you can proceed. The credential you earn is the Certificate of GED or the High School Equivalency Diploma, the HSED, which is the one Wisconsin employers and colleges recognize.
